I have always found beauty in the design of Printed Circuit Boards, which are usually hidden away behind layers of mechanical assemblies. I wanted to bring the PCB into the public eye, and incorporate my love of LED lighting. This goal led to my ongoing series of projects in PCB jewelry.
So far I’ve designed necklaces, earrings, and lapel pins. Each piece has a different feature, with lights that blink, chase, pulse, or flash depending on the design. The jewelry runs on 3.3V coin cell batteries, and utilizes LEDs with extremely low current requirements to save power – lighting up for at least 100 hours on a single battery. Each lighting feature involves different IC and transistor circuitry to create the desired effect. I have also used the same principles to design a PCB business card.
